Friday, 9 February 2012, saw the official opening of the University of Pretoria’s Department of Architecture’s HP Pixel Print Room, the first of its kind in South Africa. The HP Pixel Print Room is stocked with the latest HP Designjets and MFPs for the exclusive use of students registered with the department.

This project was the brainchild of Mariana Raath, managing director of Azero Avenue, a Pretoria-based HP Large Format Printing and Designjet specialist. Her extensive experience in the industry and her passion for inspiring youngsters has led her on a quest “to give the architects of tomorrow the best chance to become the best they can be”.

With the help of HP International’s Education Division and HP South Africa, Raath arranged for the latest MFP to replace the university’s old and very dated HP Designjet. After receiving funding from the Department of Education, the Department of Architecture felt that it would be a good idea to invest in more Designjets to expand the infrastructure and functionality of the print room. And so another three HP Designjets were purchased for the print room.

After the department’s annual prize giving ceremony at the University of Pretoria on 9 February, the official ribbon cutting commenced with the dean of the department, Professor Roelf Sandenberg, and Azero Avenue’s MD, Mariana Raath, doing the honours. Guests at the function, including lecturers, private architectural representatives and students, had the opportunity to visit the HP Pixel Print Room to view the top range equipment which included a HP Designjet 1120mfp, a new HP Designjet T2300mfp, a HP Designjet T7100 and a HP Designjet Z6200.
