A warmer winter for primary school

Osram South Africa once again held an annual collection from staff and customers to help the Fairview Primary School in Barkly East. Last year, the company donated R20 000 to ensure that every child received a blanket and it was decided that this year, the money would be spent giving every child a warm vest and some items of school uniform, as well as warm clothing. The headmaster, Piet Steyn, and teachers allocated the clothing to children most in need, who previously had never had uniforms and in some cases, hardly had a warm item of clothing at all. Although the school has no sporting grounds or facilities, a rugby, soccer and netball were also given to the school. The children had previously been playing with a ball made of sellotape and masking tape stuck together. Needless to say, this was exceptionally well received by all.
