The Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency's (SAEE's) annual bursaries for students who excel in the built environment, environmental and engineering fields of study were awarded to second-year Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) Bachelor of Architecture students Brian Saunders and Sheree Anne Marinus, and to Durban University of Technology's (DUT's) second-year Town and Regional Planning student Merishka Singh. The students received the bursaries for academic achievement in their first year of study. Saunders achieved eleven distinctions and was awarded the NMMU's Best Overall Performance in the First Year of Study in Bachelor of Architectural Studies Award, 2010. Marinus and Singh achieved three and seven distinctions in 2010 respectively. According to SAEE president Prof. LJ Grobler, more than 50 applications for bursaries were received from educational institutions across the country.
