In June 2012, Southern Power Maintenance began establishing provincial branches in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo, thus providing basic services where optimal services are lacking. These new fully equipped branches are scheduled for completion, and are to be up and running by the end of the second quarter of 2012. At present the company undertakes a large number of emergency projects in remote areas across the country. Transport associated with these projects is costly, and means unnecessary delays in their completion. While heavy machinery is transported by road to the relevant locations, the local municipalities are literally left in the dark. The establishment of these two branches will reduce travelling times, costs and help ensure quicker response times. Now local municipalities will have their outages attended to more quickly.
